Brats and Sauerkraut

I love brats and sauerkraut, whenever my mom would make this I would be looking forward to it all day.  My dad and I both love this meal and would always fight over who would get to take the leftovers. Because the brats get cooked  in a pot for about 3 hours they make the house smell so yummy all day.  I had to run to the store while they were cooking and when I got home they smelled amazing. I like to pair this meal with homemade mashed potatoes and top them with my Brats and Sauerkraut. This meal is very simple to make and is so yummy I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Brats and Sauerkraut 

1 pkg of Brats
2 Tbs of Butter
1 jar or can of Sauerkraut (I always make mine with the Bavarian Style)

Cut brats into pieces, in a large skillet melt butter. Now add in brats to the melted butter. Brown the brats, then add water till the brats are covered and cover the skillet. Cook brats on medium heat for 3 hours checking occasionally and adding more water when necessary (as the water will evaporate). After 3 hours there should only be a small amount of water left in the skillet, now add in the sauerkraut, and let cook for another 15 minutes. Serve with Mashed Potatoes and your favorite veggie. Enjoy!
